10 Key Differences between Assisted Living and Independent Living in St Petersburg

August 31, 2021

It is critical to comprehend the differences between independent and assisted living, which are the two most common entry points into senior living facilities.

Accommodations for Assisted Living in Saint Petersburg Fl

Independent living amenities include apartments, condos, townhomes, and cottages. Assisted Living homes are often apartments with a private bath and bedroom, living room, and small kitchen. Private or semi-private accommodations are available.

Assisted Living St Petersburg Florida Meals

When available, up to three meals per day may be supplied to independent residents at an additional expense. There may be a variety of food options available. Three meals are served in a community dining area for assisted living residents, usually at no additional cost.

Services for Housekeeping in Assisted Living Saint Petersburg

Weekly housekeeping services may be available for independent residents at an additional expense. Housekeeping and laundry services are usually provided free of charge to assisted living residents.

St Petersburg Assisted Living Caregivers

Someone who requires specialized care as an independent resident will have to pay for this extra care through a third party. Caregivers are accessible 24/7 in assisted living.

Medication Administration at an Assisted Living Facility St Petersburg Fl

That service may or may not be provided to independent residents, but it is supplied at no additional expense to assisted living residents.

Medical Professionals at Skilled Nursing Facilities in St Petersburg Fl

It may or may not be offered for independent residents, but for assisted living residents, full-time medical personnel is on-site or on call at all times.

Saint Petersburg Assisted Living Facilities ADLs

This is not available to independents. However, it is available 24 hours a day for assisted living residents.

Memory Care St Petersburg Fl Activities

Social trips and events are organized for independent living. A full calendar of daily events can be found in some communities. Various activities are organized every day for assisted living residents to keep them occupied throughout the day.

Independent Living St Petersburg Transportation

Seniors who live alone may have access to transportation to and from doctor's appointments and other errands. Residents of assisted living facilities frequently have vehicles to and from doctor's appointments and other chores.

Sources of Payment at Independent Living Facilities in St Petersburg Fl

Independent living is predominantly a for-profit venture. Section 202 assistance may be available for low-income seniors, but there are significant waiting lists. Assisted living is primarily a for-profit business. Some areas, however, accept Medicare and Medicaid. Lengthy care insurance and Veteran's benefits may pay some of the costs.

Independent care is typically 30-40% less expensive than assisted living, with memory care being even more costly, so choose based on your needs.

Assisted Living in Saint Petersburg: Is it Too Early

July 31, 2021

There are assisted living facilities in St Petersburg Florida that make your loved one's lives’ more comfortable. However, choosing assisted living St Petersburg means making a major decision that can impact the rest of your loved one’s life. This decision shouldn’t be taken lightly. Here are some reasons why now may be too early to send your family member to an assisted living program.

They’re not physically ready for assisted living in St Petersburg FL

Can your parents still get upstairs okay? Can they take medication as prescribed, bathe, clean, and eat independently? If your loved one is able to physically get around, assisted living Saint Petersburg Florida-based may be too much a burden for an older adult capable of handling themselves. There’s a sense of community in these programs. But older adults often prefer knowing they can take care of themselves without the help of a trained professional.

They may prefer solitude to assisted living in St Petersburg FL

Many older adults still like their solitude. Being alone sometimes is important at a time in life where older adults want to reflect on their life and enjoy private time with family. These living facilities do a good amount to make sure residents feel they have access to the care they need. But for older adults, a familiar face may be more friendly than someone they’ve never met. Hence, the benefits of solitude may outweigh moving into an assisted living program.

They’re not mentally ready for assisted living in St Petersburg FL

Liking solitude is one thing. Moving into assisted living facilities in Saint Petersburg fl is a huge choice. Assisted living programs present a form of closure some senior citizens might not be ready to embrace. Unresolved conflicts, a joyful personality, and the sorrow that comes from leaving home may be too much to bear. Therefore, it may be better to wait until later so that you and your loved ones can all spend more time together.

Learn More About Assisted Living in St Petersburg FL

One of the worst decisions adult children can make is placing their parents into an assisted living program too early. If they’re still physically and mentally capable, why rush the process? At the very least, older adults may wish to spend more time alone than socializing in assisted living. The benefits are there. But patience is part of making decisions on behalf of older adults.
